Description:

Probably c. 1600
22,5 x 33,5 cm
Two male nudes. Pen in black, washed, heightened white/paper. At the lower margin inscribed Michelangelo, lower right collector's marks of Nicholas Lanier (1588-1666; Lugt 2885) and Collection CP (Lugt 619a).
Munich Private Collection. Drawing in the opposite sense after the two etchings (one of them in Clair-Obscur technique) by Domenico Beccafumi (Le Blanc 7 and 8). The drawing seems cut at the left margin, as the figure of the man kneeling in the background is missing. Inscribed "Michelangelo" at the lower margin, a reference to the original source of this drawing and the two prints mentioned above. Cf. also the pen drawing attributed to Beccafumi from the collection of the Earl of Pembroke, now in the Cleveland Museum of Art (Ohio).
